Ben in a Nutshell
Ben has done a lot of very different things in his career as a storyteller. He has performed and directed for the stage, with plays ranging from Shakespeare, to 17th century Italian character theatre (Commedia dell’arta), to contemporary Canadian works. He has written 4 collections of spoken-word poetry, 2 of which he fused to produce his debut collection ‘Man Is / Just Names’, with help from a group of insanely talented visual artists. He records his poetry, designs immersive soundscapes for them, and releases them in albums. He is a long-form audio storyteller, an audio engineer and a filmmaker, currently developing short films, a feature film and a podcast.
An Artistic Identity
Ben champions raw and honest storytelling. As an actor, he pushes himself to maximize the emotional depth of a character and perfect the comedic timing of a joke. He fills his poetry with sprawling metaphors, vivid imagery and biting rhymes. He is honing his style as an editor, and cultivating his visual language as a filmmaker to match the tone of each film he creates. On screen, his performances are nuanced and captivating. He is excited to debut on upcoming film projects.
He’s a Person Too
When he is not creating, Ben loves consuming media in its range of forms — books (partial to Japanese thriller mysteries), TV shows (Ozark and The Americans among his favorite), podcasts (everything NYT alongside a weekly Radiolab episode), music (chooses Beyonce over Rihanna, but also loves Sufjan Stevens), films (pretty much anything from A24), concerts, live theatre and dance. He loves walking his dog Sky (who loves eating things off the floor), watering his plants and tending to his herb garden.
